Lesson 1: An Orientation

The Start

Welcome to the Transformational Course orientation! We're really excited to have you here, and we're praying this journey equips and encourages you as you build a clear, effective communication plan for your church.

Let's start with a quick introduction.

Bob Mlynek has spent over a decade helping nonprofits, businesses, and churches make sense of the online world—and use it to build real, meaningful connection. He's passionate about helping organizations communicate with clarity, purpose, and impact.

Bob's a graduate of Zion Bible Institute and Central Bible College, and he went on to pursue further theological training at Assembly of God Theological Seminary and Evangelical Theological Seminary. That gave him a strong, well-rounded Christian worldview. From there, God led him into the business and financial world, where he worked as a financial advisor and communication strategist—helping small businesses, nonprofits, and churches learn to communicate clearly so they could accomplish their mission.

The Course

After more than ten years of coaching churches through this exact process, we decided to take everything we've learned and turn it into this course—so more churches could access it.

Here's the thing: this isn't just a course you learn. It's a workshop you build in. We'll walk you through every piece step by step, and by the time you finish, you'll have a complete, ready-to-use Communication Plan in hand. Nothing theoretical here—it's practical, intentional, and each step builds on the one before it.

Since it's all online, you can move at whatever pace works for you. Fly through it or take your time—just be intentional about doing the work thoroughly. Come back and revisit lessons whenever you need to.

Each lesson includes a teaching video, plus guided exercises and reflection questions. And here's the important part: those exercises aren't optional extras. That's where the real transformation happens—when you actually sit down and do the work.

As you go through each lesson, keep asking yourself: how does this apply to my church? This isn't about learning for learning's sake. It's about real growth and real change.

What You'll Need

To get the most out of this, here's what we'd recommend having on hand:

• A notebook for notes, ideas, and insights

• A regular time set aside to work through each lesson

• An open, teachable mindset

One more thing—come into this with honesty and openness. If you catch yourself getting defensive, it'll be harder to fully engage and build a plan that actually works. And remember: not everything will fit your specific context perfectly, and that's totally fine. Take what applies, adapt what you can, and think carefully through anything that doesn't quite fit.
